A fire service has urged people to take care with oil burners, following a cellar fire in Kent.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS) attended a cellar fire at a house on Knowle Road in Wouldham, Rochester on Thursday at about 19:05 BST.

Two fire engines and crews wearing breathing apparatus attended the scene and the fire was put out successfully.

The fire, believed to have started accidentally, has been linked to an oil burner with the service urging people to avoid leaving them unattended when burning.

KFRS has issued "important candle safety advice" following the fire.

The service said oil burners and candles should be fitted in a "sturdy candle holder" and placed on a non-flammable surface.

Oil used in burners should be cool before going to sleep, or out of the house, and should not be burning close to flammable objects like curtains, bedding or clothes, a fire service spokesperson said.
