Gloucestershire traffic lights get £610k upgrade
- Published
A local authority has been awarded more than £610,000 to upgrade traffic signals across the county.
The Department for Transport (DfT) has allocated the money to Gloucestershire County Council.
It will be used to replace seven sets of old lights, updating them with the latest technology to help vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists travel more efficiently.
Councillor Dom Morris said he was "delighted" with the funding.
The new traffic lights have lower voltage which will reduce electricity costs and carbon emissions.
Currently, a remote monitoring system is used to control some traffic lights in Gloucestershire.
The new grant will help the scheme expand allowing more sites to be monitored remotely.
The system aims to minimise signal faults, increase efficiency and reduce the need for on-site visits.
Work to replace the lights will begin in the summer and is expected to last 18 months.
