A developer has acquired land to start building 480 new homes and a primary school in Grantham.

Housebuilder Allison Homes said it was set to begin work on the £95m development named Manthorpe Chase on land north of Longcliffe Road this summer.

The mixed-tenure project will be located on land north of Longcliffe Road and spans over 93 acres.

Attempts to develop on the site have been ongoing for more than a decade with an original proposal of more than 1,000 homes dismissed in 2011.

The project will also include a neighbourhood centre and areas of public open space.

Allison Homes said the doors to the show home are due to open in May 2025.

An earlier plan for more than 1,000 homes on the site was submitted to South Kesteven District Council in 2010 but refused the following year.

Allison Homes first submitted its proposals for 550 homes in 2015.

Discussions with council officers led to a revised number of 480 homes being put to councillors who turned them down in 2017.

The company lodged a successful appeal and planning permission was granted in February 2018.

Sophie Kendal, land and partnerships director at Allison Homes East, said: "We are very proud to have secured this land in Manthorpe and I’d like to thank the whole team at Allison Homes, who worked exceptionally hard to get this acquisition over the line.

"Manthorpe Chase will be our fifth active site in Lincolnshire and forms an important part of our growth plans."

As part of the plans, the applicant is required to contribute to healthcare, education and infrastructure with an investment of £5.3 million.

This will include the area's NHS, education services, cycleways and off-site highways improvement works.
