The plans would include renovating Addenbrooke House

Plans have been submitted for a new sixth form centre in Telford, based in former council offices.

Telford and Wrekin Council successfully secured government funding for the project last year.

This includes the renovation of the Addenbrooke House offices in the Station Quarter, which is being transformed as part of a wider scheme to provide a state-of-the-art digital skills and enterprise hub as well as new apartments and shops.

If approved, education provision at the sixth form would be led by Telford College.

Councillor Shirley Reynolds, Cabinet Member for Children, Young People, Education, Employment and Skills, said it was "very exciting" news for the area and would provide a "huge boost" to Telford College's existing training and skills offering.

The college currently delivers further and higher education courses from its main site in Wellington.

The new sixth form centre would sit alongside the new digital skills centre, set to be called The Quad, close to Telford Central railway station.

Relocating A-Level provision to the Station Quarter will also enable Telford College to broaden its already expanding A-Level centre, supporting more students to study locally.

It is part of a major expansion for the college which will also see a £1.8m investment in the Wellington campus.

This news was gathered by the Local Democracy Reporting Service which covers councils and other public service organisations.
