A road will close in both directions for ongoing repairs to a storm-damaged wall in Derbyshire.

Part of the structure, which supports the B6049 Stretfield Road in Brough, near Bradwell, and runs alongside a brook, collapsed in November.

The road closed for 12 weeks in June so work could begin and Derbyshire County Council said it would be shut again on Tuesday and Wednesday from 08:00 BST to 15:30.

The authority apologised for the "short notice" but said it was on the "final stretch" of the repair work.

Temporary repairs took place to remove loose stones and shore up the wall in December, but they were only temporary measures.

In an update published on Friday, the council said scaffolding had been taken down and a flume to temporarily divert the brook it sits alongside was removed.

It added that work to cut back trees was due to begin on Saturday.

A stretch of the road will be resurfaced during the road closure, the council said.

The authority added: "We need to close the road due to the amount of equipment we will need on site for the resurfacing works, including a planing machine, hot box of bitumen and other similar things."

It added that the repairs were "time consuming and complex" with each stone having to be removed by hand, cleaned and stored.
