New bus ticket for almost unlimited county travel
- Published
A new bus ticket offering almost unlimited travel on services across Oxfordshire has been launched.
The MyBus ticket offers passengers daily or weekly travel across the county for a fixed price, covering more than 150 bus services run by 12 operators.
It would cost adults £6.50 a day or £25 a week, and £3.50 a day or £14.50 a week for the under-19s.
The offer has been developed by the Oxfordshire Bus Enhanced Partnership, a collaboration between Oxfordshire County Council and the county’s bus companies.
The council said it was first time such a ticket had been offered for the whole of the county, and across multiple operators.
The offer promotes the use of bus services through the Bus Service Improvement Plan funding provided by the government, which has totalled £14.6 million for Oxfordshire to date.
The money has also been used to fund a £1 Sunday fare cap in December 2023 and 2024, and support and improve bus services in both rural and urban areas.
Councillor Andrew Gant, cabinet member for transport management, said it presented "a simple, joined-up and good value bus travel solution" for residents and visitors.
Both the county’s main bus providers, Oxford Bus Company and Stagecoach, offer day tickets for unlimited travel on their own services across Oxfordshire.
Luke Marion, managing director of Oxford Bus Company, Thames Travel, Carousel Buses and Pulhams, said it was "great to be able to expand this principle across all bus services countywide" and that his team was "pleased" to support the initiative "to help encourage more people in the county to give bus travel a try.”
MyBus week tickets are available to purchase on participating bus operator websites and apps, while day tickets can also be purchased when boarding the bus.
