A 15-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of violent disorder after a 17-year-old boy suffered suspected knife wounds in Harrogate.

The suspect is one of four boys, two aged 17 and two aged 15, arrested on suspicion of affray in connection with the attack near the Nidd Viaduct in Bilton last Wednesday.

The victim was found with "lacerations" believed to have been caused by a blade and treated for non-life-threatening injuries, North Yorkshire Police said.

A week on, officers have conducted a proactive policing operation in the area, with one person arrested and three "dangerous weapons" seized, the force said.

A spokesperson said a Section 60 Order which provides officers with enhanced stop-and-search powers remained in place in Harrogate and Knaresborough.

Det Insp Matt Wilkinson said: "This type of crime is thankfully rare in Harrogate and this why we have introduced these heightened measures.

“We are committed to disrupting any criminal activity and removing drugs and dangerous weapons from the town."

The 15-year-old boy had been released on bail, police said.
