Highland Council's plans for a rapid roads repair team to deal with potholes have stalled due to recruitment problems.

The local authority has allocated £1.2m for the trial scheme but has struggled to find the 10 workers needed.

The posts will be re-advertised in January following unsuccessful recruitment efforts in the summer.

Six-month contracts are being offered to team members.

Economy and Infrastructure Committee chairman Ken Gowans blamed the "ravages of Brexit" for the recruitment difficulties.

He said: "We just simply cannot get the staff and we are not alone in that, hospitality and other trades are suffering too."
