Two officers have sustained minor injuries after a police car responding to an incident was involved in a crash with a taxi in Birmingham.

The crash happened on St Chads Queensway earlier on Saturday, which led to the road being closed at Snow Hill Queensway and "major disruption" in the morning.

The officer "driving the car which was responding to an incident, had to be cut out of the vehicle and has been taken to hospital", police said on X.

"The taxi driver and a passenger, thankfully were uninjured," West Midlands Police added.

The force later said on X: "Both officers have been checked over at hospital and have nothing more serious than cuts and bruises."

The incident had caused "major disruption" in the city on Saturday, West Midlands Roads information service warned, with road congestion and delays around the busy area.

Bus services were also affected and drivers had been advised to seek alternative routes.

However, routes were reported to have cleared by 14:00 GMT.
