The masterplan for a city centre regeneration scheme that will deliver up to 1,000 homes is set to be unveiled.

Details of the City Centre West project in Wolverhampton will be put on display for the first time at consultation events on Saturday and Wednesday 2 October.

The development covers a 12-acre (4.9-hectare) site linking School Street and Darlington Street as well as the area around Market Square.

The planned project, a joint venture between the city council and businesses, would include an enhanced market square and 70,000 sq ft of retail, leisure and commercial space.

It will provide between 800 and 1,000 homes, including affordable homes, said City of Wolverhampton Council.

It would also include opportunities for new shops, cafes and restaurants, with the potential for outdoor seating.

Councillor Chris Burden said the project was an opportunity to “put people at the heart of the city”.

“The vision and masterplan could be truly transformational for Wolverhampton, so I encourage people to continue to engage and share their views,” he added.

The council and ECF, a joint venture between Homes England, Legal and General and Muse have entered a development agreement to bring forward the proposals.

The first consultation session on the masterplan will take place on Saturday at The Way Youth Centre on School Street from 13:00 BST to 16:00 BST.

The second will be held on 2 October at the Urban Room, 18 Queen Square, from 12:00 BST to 19:00 BST.
