Mr Roberts, who lived with his mother in Coniston Drive, Prestatyn, did not enter a plea at Mold Crown Court hearing last month, and he was remanded in custody.
Ms Shellis, who was born in Tywyn, was a teaching assistant at Rhyl High School.
At the inquest Mr Gittins said provisional cause of death by a blunt force head trauma had been given by Home Office pathologist Dr Brian Rodgers.
