Pub's hours cut back following fight death

Mr Derrett died in hospital two days after being attacked

A pub in Derbyshire has had its opening hours cut back following a street fight that led to a man's death.
Liam Derrett,19, was out with friends in Market Place, Ilkeston, when he was attacked in the early hours of 1 June and died in hospital two days later.
The alcohol licence at The Market Inn was suspended three weeks ago as Derbyshire Police expressed concern about the venue being connected to "serious disorder" in the town centre.
Now licensing officials at Erewash Borough Council have ruled the pub needs to close an hour earlier at 01:00 at weekends, with extra security arrangements to check for evidence of drug-taking.

Two men, aged 23 and 24, have been charged with Mr Derrett's murder, with police saying the incident started in The Market Inn.
Licensing officers from Derbyshire Police said: "The premises [has] been associated with incidents that raise significant concerns about serious crime... reports from police indicate disturbances involving large groups, aggressive behaviour and threats to public safety."
Licensing documents published by Erewash Borough Council showed 63 incidents directly linked to The Market Inn - which includes violence and public disorder - had been recorded from June 2023 to June 2025.
The new licensing conditions also include a minimum of three door supervisors being on duty from 21:30 on Friday and Saturday nights.
