Island-wide local authority elections are due to take place in April

People planning to vote in April's local authority election have been encouraged to check their details are up to date on the electoral register.

The all-island poll is set to take place on 24 April and people have until the 25 March to update their details, including any changes of address or name.

People aged 16 and over who have lived on the island for more than a year, but are not "subject to a legal incapacity", are eligible to vote in Manx elections.

A government spokeswoman said taking part in elections was a "fundamental democratic right", but even those who "don't want to vote or run for election" must be registered.

Local authority elections take place across the island's 21 local authorities every four years.

'Credit rating'

The government spokeswoman said people were also encouraged to provide an email address "to streamline communication" with the Electoral Registration Unit.

"Being registered may improve a credit rating and make it easier to get a mortgage, loan, or mobile phone contract," she added.

While paper forms have not been distributed since 2021 as part of efforts to become more efficient, they can still be obtained from the unit.

An election notice is due to be issued for the island's local authorities on 13 March.
