Thousands left without electricity after power cuts
- Published
A large area of Wiltshire was affected by a power cut, with thousands of residents left without power.
Areas of north and west Swindon were affected by a power cut, including Haydon Wick, Peatmoor, and Rodbourne, and the neighbouring areas of Royal Wootton Bassett and Winterbourne Bassett.
Calne was also affected, with all customers said to be reconnected by 12:13 GMT.
Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) apologised for the outages, and said an investigation into the cause was now under way.
SSEN said the power cuts in both the Swindon and Calne areas were resolved at about 12:13 GMT.
"We were alerted to a network fault in the Swindon area at 11:53 this morning; power was restored in stages with all customers reconnected 12:13.
"We'd like to apologise to customers who were affected by the interruption and thank them for their patience as we worked to restore supplies.
"Investigations into the root cause are now under way."
SSEN said about 30,000 customers were left without power, but added that many customers would have been "automatically reconnected within a few minutes" before power was restored fully.
