A man is in a critical condition in hospital following a stabbing in a town centre.

Emergency services were sent to Ashby Square in Loughborough, Leicestershire, just after 19:00 GMT on Thursday.

A man in his 40s was taken to hospital, Leicestershire Police said.

The force said a 19-year-old man, from Leicester, had been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

He remains in police custody, the force added.

Cordons, which have since been lifted, were set up outside McDonald's in Market Place and in Ashby Square.

Det Ch Insp Tom Allard, from the force's complex investigation team, said investigations were at an early stage and asked for anyone with information to make contact.
