Dog abuser attacked gas worker with metal pole
Connor Weeks has been jailed, had his dog seized, and has been banned from owning animals

A Nottinghamshire man, who was confronted by a gas worker for hitting a dog with a stick, returned later to attack the man with a metal pole.
Connor Weeks had been spotted beating a dog by the gas man who was working in Sherwood Street, Warsop, leading to an argument over a fence at about 10:30 BST on 29 March last year.
He has now been jailed for launching an attack on the engineer with a wheel brace and later attempting to escape police.
Weeks also admitted hitting a dog with a frying pan in a separate incident on 10 July 2023.
The gas engineer had called police, and was waiting for them to arrive when Weeks, 24, got in his van and drove off a short distance.
But Weeks donned a balaclava and came back to hit both the victim and his work van.
He struck the engineer twice to the head with the wheel brace, causing a deep cut above his eyebrow, before driving off.
When Nottinghamshire Police later attempted to detain Weeks on 6 April, he led police on a chase around residential streets and off-road, eventually fleeing on foot through a pond and into woods off Longster Lane.
XL bully seized
Detective Inspector Luke Waller said Weeks, of Park Hall Road in Mansfield Woodhouse, was a “violent and reckless” persistent offender, and he had put road users and police at risk trying to evade justice.
He said: “The engineer was subjected to a violent attack which left him with nasty injuries.
“It is fortunate he was not more seriously hurt and we understand the emotional impact an incident like this can have on any victim.”
Weeks was convicted of wounding with intent, possession of an offensive weapon, criminal damage and dangerous driving, and admitted causing the suffering of a protected animal.
He also admitted owning a banned breed of dog.
He was jailed for four years and four months, had his XL bully dog seized, and was banned from owning animals for eight years.
