A man in his 30s was rushed to hospital after he was stabbed from behind in an alleyway.

Essex Police were called to the serious assault, which took place in an alleyway between Kendall Road and Winnock Road in Colchester at about 21:00 BST on 28 September.

The victim suffered a stab wound to his shoulder and several cuts to his arm and torso after a person allegedly approached him from behind. He was taken to hospital for treatment for his injuries, which were not life-threatening.

Officers said they were treating it as an isolated incident, and no arrests have been made. Their investigation is ongoing.

Det Insp Tim Coyles said: "Our assessment is that there is no ongoing threat to our community.

“But, of course, that will not allay the concerns of residents in New Town, who will naturally be shocked."
