Dozens of new school crossing patrols are needed, with almost a third of positions across Derbyshire currently unfilled.

Patrols operate at 107 sites county-wide, and Derbyshire County Council said it needed to appoint new officers at 30 sites.

Vacancies for over-18s are currently advertised in the Long Eaton and Ilkeston areas, south and central Derbyshire, High Peak, Derbyshire Dales, North East Derbyshire and parts of Chesterfield.

Full uniform, including the distinctive lollipop sign, is provided along with a rate of £12.65 per hour - which would also be paid through school holidays.

The council said people did not need experience to apply for the roles, and training would be given.

But applicants need "a natural rapport with children and adults", the council said.

A spokesperson said: "School might be out for summer, but we're still looking for friendly people to join our team of crossing patrols.

"You just need to be available in term time, happy working in all weathers and be aware of road safety."
