A property in Hull has been left "structurally unsafe" following a large blaze, the fire service has said.

At its height, more than 20 firefighters tackled the fire at the property in Ash Grove.

Humberside Fire and Rescue Service said the incident was reported shortly after midnight and crews remained at the scene earlier this morning.

No one was inside the property at the time.

Humberside Police said officers were working to establish the cause and the circumstances that led to the fire.

Anyone with information that could assist is urged to contact police.

BBC Radio Humberside's James Piekos was at the scene at 06:30 BST, with crews still in attendance dampening down.

He said it appeared that there was substantial damage to the roof.

"The roof has gone in completely," he said. "You can still see smouldering embers."

Motorists were earlier advised to avoid the Beverley Road area, but the road has since reopened.

A police guard is in place for security.
