Two men have been arrested and released on bail after a learner driver and their passenger were both punched in the head.
Northamptonshire Police have appealed for witness and dashcam footage of the incident on the A4500 at the Turnpike junction near Harpole.
Officers said it happened on 22 November between 16:00 and 17:00 GMT.
It was reported the altercation occurred between the drivers and passengers of a grey Vauxhall Vivaro van and a blue Volkswagen Polo, which displayed L plates, police said.
The force said the teenage learner driver was punched in the head leaving him with concussion and a severe facial injury that required stitches.
The passenger of the Polo was punched to the back of the head several times.
Two men, aged 41 and 20 and both from Daventry, were arrested in connection with the assaults and released on police bail pending further inquiries.
