A suspicious device has been found during a security alert in Craigavon, County Armagh.

A number of people were moved from their homes during the alert in the Meadowbrook area which was reported on Sunday afternoon.

Police said that alongside Ammunition Technical Officers (ATO), they "examined the device and removed it for further forensic examination".

Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) Inspector Nicholas Woods thanked residents for "their patience while this safety operation was carried out".

'Harm and fear'

Upper Bann MP, the DUP's Carla Lockhart, described the alert as an "outrageous situation" and that "no one wants it".

"I have been liaising with the PSNI today and to think that in 2025 we have those who are engaging in this type of activity is just beyond comprehension," she said.

The MP also urged anyone with information to report it to the police.

Sinn Féin councillor for Craigavon, Jude Mallon, said on Monday morning that it was "completely unacceptable" and "served only to harm and cause disruption to the people in our community".

"There were two or three rows of houses evacuated," he told BBC Radio Ulster's Good Morning Ulster programme.

"Fortunately there were people who took them in.

"The community don't need it and they don't want it."

He said the residents, who had moved out, were now back in their properties.
