Some ferries between Dover and Calais have been cancelled due to high winds.

DFDS said it had cancelled seven services on Sunday and four on Monday, with all other sailings expected to run to schedule.

A spokesperson said passengers on the affected ferries would be offered an alternative sailing, including travel on the Dover-Dunkirk route.

Strong winds have been causing disruption in other parts of the UK as millions of people travel ahead of Christmas, with about 100 flights cancelled at Heathrow Airport.

The DFDS spokesperson said passengers travelling this weekend should aim to arrive two hours before their booked departure time and would be offered the next available sailing on arrival.

The cancelled sailings from Calais to Dover were at 08:25 GMT, 13:15, 18:00 and 22:45 on Sunday, and at 06:05 and 11:20 on Monday.

Those affected from Dover to Calais were at 09:55, 14:40, 19:30 on Sunday and 00:35 and 07:40 on Monday.

A Port of Dover post on X at 11:00 said traffic was free-flowing, and a P&O spokesperson said its Sunday crossings were sailing on time between Dover and Calais.
