Plans for Blackpool Prom hot food kiosk thrown out

Plans to install a kiosk selling hot takeaway food outside a hotel on Blackpool Promenade have been thrown out.
Town hall planners said the proposed kiosk outside Harper Beach Hotel near the Trafalgar Road junction would be out of keeping with such a prominent location.
In rejecting in the application, they stressed the importance of protecting the integrity of the resort's famous seafront.
"Blackpool’s seafront Promenade is its shop window," they wrote. "It is imperative to ensure that all new development is of a high standard to enhance the visitor experience and develop positive perceptions of the resort."
'Forecourt clutter'
Their report acknowledged that "though the kiosk would be on the side forecourt of the hotel and would not face directly onto the Promenade, it would be highly visible from the Promenade and contribute to forecourt clutter which is not well-integrated with its surroundings."
Blackpool Council's public health department was also against the plans.
Noting there were already 63 fast food outlets in the neighbouring area, it said another would further contribute to obesity levels in the town.
Neighbours raised concerns about food waste blowing from the street into gardens, more parking problems, increased noise and possible anti-social behaviour.
One said the proposed development would be an "eyesore".
