New mobile police station opens in Torquay

A mobile police station which will allow residents to report crime is set to open in Torquay later.
Devon and Cornwall Police said the van will be based in various locations in the town during October and November.
The force said people who visited the mobile station would be able to receive crime prevention advice, share intelligence about a crime and be signposted to useful support services.
Inspector Chris Lithgow said: "We’re aiming to make speaking to the police as convenient and accessible as we can for the public."
Insp Lithgow said the mobile station was a "step in the right direction" for the town.
"This isn’t going to replace our regular foot patrols, it’s simply an additional way for our officers to be present while also being able to provide support to people who need it," he said.
"Together, we can build a safer town.”
Police and Crime Commissioner Alison Hernandez has funded the van to be used as a mobile police station.
Ms Hernandez said the mobile station represented "significant progress" in the town.
"Our goal is to bring about real, long-term change and show residents that the police are here to listen, support and take action is central to that.
"I’m pleased that the mobile police station will further strengthen our efforts to connect with the community.”
