Man sentenced for hit-and-run that killed pedestrian

A man has been jailed over a hit-and-run which left a pedestrian dead in Edinburgh.

Ralph Fairhurst was driving more than twice the speed limit when he struck Kyle Middlemas on Easter Road on 19 June 2022.

Mr Middlemas, 20, was thrown 10 to 20m (33-66ft) in the air in the collision and died in hospital 10 days later.

Fairhurst, 26, admitted the offence and to fleeing the area in the immediate aftermath before being traced by officers later that day.

He was jailed for four years and six months at the High Court in Glasgow.
