Warning as fire crews tackle 'large vehicle' blaze

Residents have been told to keep doors and windows shut as firefighters are tackling a large vehicle fire at an industrial estate in Worksop.

Five appliances, a water carrier, and a high volume pump from Nottinghamshire and neighbouring Derbyshire and South Yorkshire stations were called to the fire in Tranker Lane just after 14:00 BST on Friday.

In a statement, the fire service said it had received "a large amount of calls" and asked people to avoid the area.

Group manager Tom Staples said crews had been called to a "series of tankers on fire".

He continued: "There were some reports of explosions from the incident, but that's normal of an incident of this type.

"The vehicles involved could easily have contained cylinders or tyres that will have naturally just popped or exploded during the incident.

"That's nothing to be unduly worried about for members of the public."

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service said it would remain on the scene for the next few hours.

"It's every possibility we could be there overnight in some presence, but that's difficult to say at this stage," Mr Staples said.
