A road was closed for several hours after a school bus crashed into a house.

Police were called to Mansfield Road in Underwood, near Selston in Nottinghamshire, at about 07:30 GMT on Tuesday.

Nottinghamshire Police said no passengers were on the bus at the time, adding the driver was taken to hospital "with injuries which are not believed to be life-altering or life-threatening".

The road was reopened at 12:15, the force added.

Joe Hunt, 34, was in the house next door with his children when the crash took place.

"I heard a loud scraping and banging noise, so I popped my head out the window and noticed cars sideways here on the driveway," he said.

"I've come out just to check and see if everyone's OK, to find a double decker bus in my neighbour's house."

Chris Sinkin said he was "fast asleep in bed" in a neighbouring property when the crash happened.

The 72-year-old said: "There were two or three loud bangs, then a really loud bang, and the house shook.

"I thought they'd come to pick the skip up and the skip had hit the house, so I jumped out of bed.

"You're never thinking you're going to have a bus in your front garden - it doesn't happen every day."
