Hundreds of the Bailiwick of Guernsey's teenagers have received their GCSE and other Level Two qualification results.

According to the States, 653 students received their Key Stage 4 exam results across the Bailiwick with 69.8% of all GCSE results graded 4 and above.

Pupils taking GCSEs this year are the first to start the secondary school system without going through 11-plus selection, which was scrapped in 2019.

A standard pass is a result of between nine and four - which is equivalent to the former A to C grading system.

For the three private schools; Blanchelande College announced a pass rate of 87%, Elizabeth College achieved 93.6% and Ladies' College recorded a pass rate of 97%.

Individual pass rates have not been published for the States-run schools.

Deputy Andrea Dudley-Owen, President of the Committee for Education, Sport & Culture, said: "Today is about congratulating all of the students who have received their results.

"Completing your GCSEs, BTECs, or any other Level 2 exam is neither easy nor stress-free, so I want to congratulate everyone for their commitment and hard work in getting to this point.

"For a year group whose senior education has been markedly interrupted by Covid from the get-go and with a return to the tighter 2019 grade boundaries, I hope everyone has got results they can feel proud of."

'Celebrating their achievements'

Principal at Ladies’ College Daniele Harford-Fox said: "I’m incredibly impressed by what the girls have accomplished and the dedication they’ve shown in their preparation."

Elizabeth College principal Jenny Palmer said: "I am proud of our students for everything they have achieved.

"This set of results reflects their hard work and commitment, as well as the support they have received from their families and our dedicated staff."

Blanchelande’s acting principal Mike Elward said: "Many of Blanchelande’s year 11 students and their parents will be celebrating their achievements, the culmination of many years of hard work by them and their teachers."

Other schools are due to release pass rate results later.

Yehor moved to Guernsey from Ukraine a year ago to escape the country's invasion by Russia

Les Varendes High School pupil Yehor moved to Guernsey from Ukraine in 2023 following the Russian invasion of his home.

"When I came here I didn’t know what I'm doing, how I'm doing," he said.

"I'm proud, I was really worried, I was working really hard.

"I did well, I got what I needed to go to sixth form."

Les Varendes Principle Verona Tomlin said she has had some sleepless nights in the build up to results day but "it is the same every year".

"The pride that I have for these students is because of the fact that they are so hard working and resilient, I've got no doubt they will be successful," she said.
