A fire at a house is being treated as suspected arson, police say.

The blaze was spotted at about 21:30 BST on Tuesday at a home on Front Street, Burnhope, near Stanley in County Durham.

Officers said no-one was hurt but they were treating the fire as arson and were investigating. The road remained closed in both directions on Wednesday.

Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service said crews remained at the scene for about two hours on the night of the fire.

A spokesman said: "One fire engine from High Handenhold Fire Station and one from Durham Fire Station attended."

Police appealed for anyone with information or dashcam footage to contact them.
