A 21 year-old has been jailed following a shooting in Birmingham.

Desie Dalton-Byrne, of Chudleigh Road, Erdington, was sentenced to five years and six months at Birmingham Crown Court on 6 March.

He pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence, and had previously pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm and possession of ammunition for a firearm without a certificate.

West Midlands Police said a gun was fired at a group of people at about 18:30 GMT on Chudleigh Road, on 25 July 2024.

Nobody was hit and the force said the motive of the shooting has never been revealed.

After extensive CCTV enquiries, police obtained footage that showed Dalton-Byrne firing the gun and fleeing the scene.

The firearm was found in the garden of another property

The firearm was later located in a garden of an address in Low Wood Road.

"As a result of this discovery, we've taken a deadly weapon off the streets, and an individual with direct access to it is behind bars," said Det Insp Matt Marston.

"We hope this sentence will offer a deterrent to other criminals who act in this way."
