Local authorities in Berkshire have added new materials to a list of what is classed as DIY waste by their recycling centres.

The change, made by Bracknell Forest, Reading, and Wokingham Borough Councils, applies to materials including asbestos and timber.

A charge will now be incurred if more than 100 litres is disposed of in one visit.

Councillor Karen Rowland, chair of the re3 joint waste disposal board, said the change would ensure taxpayers would not be funding the disposal costs of those choosing to do DIY.

Residents can also dispose of one large bulky item per visit, up to four times within a four-week period, at the centres on Longshot Lane in Bracknell and Island Road in Reading.

All additional DIY waste is chargeable at the standard rate.

Ms Rowland said DIY waste was "some of the costliest material to dispose of".

A full list of the newly added items and their pricing can be found on the re3 website, external.
