Crews tackle scrap metal fire at recycling centre

Firefighters worked to tackle the blaze at the recycling centre in East Tilbury

Firefighters have been tackling a large blaze involving scrap metal at a recycling centre.
Essex County Fire and Rescue Service said it was called to the site in Station Road, East Tilbury, at about 18:40 GMT.
Crews from Basildon, Corringham, Grays, Orsett and Rayleigh Weir were sent to the scene and found the fire was burning in a large pile of mixed metals.
A significant amount of smoke was billowing from the area and nearby residents were urged to keep windows and doors closed.
