A pedestrian has been seriously injured after a crash in Exmouth, police have said.

Devon and Cornwall Police said a woman in her 70s from Honiton suffered "life-threatening injuries" after the crash at 14:30 GMT on Friday.

She was in a crash with a silver Nissan Almera outside Home Bargains on Salterton Road, the force said.

Officers said a man in his 50s from Exmouth was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving and causing serious injury by careless or inconsiderate driving. He was bailed until April pending further inquiries.

Police said the woman was taken to Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital to be treated.

Officers appealed for witnesses and anyone with dashcam footage to get in touch with them.
