Two men are in hospital in a serious condition following a fire at a block of flats.

Firefighters and police were called to Archers Road, Southampton, on Tuesday shortly after 19:40 GMT.

One man, in his 80s, was rescued from the flat by firefighters passed into the care of paramedics and taken to hospital.

South Central Ambulance Service confirmed a second man, in a first floor flat, was treated at the scene for an existing condition before also being transported to hospital.

The flats remain cordoned off while police and the fire service investigate the circumstances of the fire.

Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire & Rescue Service said crews put the fire out with jets, and checked all neighbouring flats for smoke and fire spread.
