Firefighters tackle incident at industrial site

Almost 50 firefighters have been tackling a fire at an industrial site that was ablaze for more than eight hours.

Emergency services attended the two storey industrial unit on Harris Road in Porte Marsh Industrial Estate at Calne in Wiltshire at 13:20 BST on Saturday.

Dorset and Wiltshire fire service warned locals to stay away from the area and keep windows closed due to the large volume of smoke.

At around 21:45 BST the crews made up of of 47 firefighters finally extinguished the fire, a spokesperson said.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing.

"The fire has been extinguished, so we only have one crew and the aerial ladder platform dealing with hotspots," they said.

"We are liaising with on-site staff ahead of handing the site back."
