Residents in seaside towns could get free parking and swimming, as well as discount on coffee and ice creams.

Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (BCP) Council has proposed plans to introduce a resident card by summer 2026.

If approved, communities will be able to access one free swim a month at BCP-managed leisure facilities and perks at local businesses as well as an hour of free parking.

The proposals will be considered by a scrutiny committee on 22 September before being discussed by the council's cabinet on 1 October.

The discount would apply to council-run seaside kiosks, as well as local businesses, and the council said owners would be able to decide what benefits they offer.

The hour of free parking will be valid with any purchased session after 09:30 BST at selected council-owned car parks.

Millie Earl, leader of BCP Council, called it "an exciting step in revitalising our towns and high streets".

She added: "Introducing a resident card means, together, we can help residents make the most of what our towns have to offer, support them through the ongoing cost of living challenges, and drive new customers to local businesses."

The plans would see the introduction of digital and physical cards, plus a "user-friendly" website.
