Remembrance Sunday events to honour Kent war dead
- Published
Communities across Kent will come together this weekend to mark Remembrance Sunday, honouring those killed in conflicts.
At war memorials across the county, crowds are expected to gather for ceremonies as wreaths are laid and silences held in tribute to the fallen.
There are also a number of annual parades in towns and villages, followed by services at local churches.
We have rounded up some of the events happening this year.
Ahead of Remembrance Sunday, The New Folkestone Society will host a Son et Lumière Remembrance Parade on Saturday evening.
The free parade will be held from 18:00 to 20:00 GMT in front of The Grand, The Leas, Folkestone.
On Sunday, a service will be held in the old market square outside the entrance to Canterbury Cathedral, where wreaths will be laid at the war memorial from 10:25.
There will also be a service held inside the cathedral at 10:50 and a parade with local military groups, charities and community clubs from noon.
In Dover, crowds will watch the parade of standards, veterans and community groups march from Biggin Street to the war memorial at Maison Dieu House.
A two-minute silence, wreath laying and memorial service will be led by the Mayor of Dover, who will take the salute at St Mary’s Church.
A fundraising concert with performances from the Shorncliffe Military Wives Choir, Shepway Brass Academy, Dance Fusion, Royal Marines and Army and Air Cadets returns to Folkestone this year.
A Service of Remembrance, Thanksgiving and Dedication will take place from 10:45 at the War Memorial in Royal Tunbridge Wells.
Following a service and laying of wreaths, there will be a March Past for services and other organisations to pay their respects.
