A crash involving three lorries closed a stretch of the A34 southbound for several hours.

National Highways said two of the vehicles involved in the early hours crash were "very heavily damaged and shed their loads on to the road".

One lane of the southbound carriageway near Abingdon reopened at about 10:30 GMT.

The road was then fully reopened at about 14:00.

Two of the lorries were travelling on the dual carriageway, the third was parked up in a layby, National Highways said.

Drivers had been urged to allow extra journey time, re-route or even delay their journeys.

Thames Valley Police said it was a "damage-only" road traffic collision and officers were no longer at the scene.
