Man arrested and two in critical condition after fire

A man has been arrested and two others are in a critical condition in hospital after a caravan fire on Monday night.

Avon Fire and Rescue said it sent multiple crews to the incident in the St George area of Bristol at about 22:30 BST.

Witnesses said they heard people screaming for help and two men had to be rescued from a property adjacent to the fire.

A man in his 50s was arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life on Tuesday morning. He remains in custody.

A number of nearby properties were evacuated as a precaution due to a suspected gas leak for a short period before being able to return home overnight.

Avon and Somerset Police said officers remain at the scene and they are working alongside the fire service to establish what happened.
