About 100 Farmfoods workers are expected to take part in the strike

Workers at supermarket chain have voted to strike over pay and working conditions, according to a trade union.

GMB Union said that about 100 Farmfoods workers at a distribution centre in Solihull would take part in a two-day walkout.

Workers were "furious" with management staff for turning down requests for union recognition and fair pay, said GMB.

The BBC has approached Farmfoods for comment.

The strike will take place on 24-25 September.

Tom Warnett, GMB Organiser, said workers were being told pay rises would not be possible.

He said: "These workers have stood loyally with Farmfoods as it’s grown to a company with over £1bn in sales, but now they’re being told there isn’t the money for proper pay rises.

“They’re being asked to meet gruelling targets but management refuses to listen when they call for better pay, union recognition and a safer working environment.

"These workers deserve so much better, and it’s time for the company to get around the table before it’s too late”.
