Businesses in Shrewsbury are being offered development grants of between £1,000 and £5,000.

The money has come from the government's Shared Prosperity Fund, with a total of £30,000 on offer.

Shrewsbury Business Improvement District (BID), a business partnership, said the funding can only be used to cover revenue costs, such as hiring new staff or renting extra retail or office space.

Companies wanting to apply must do so by 20 October.

The BID said other examples of how the money could be spent, including improvements to shop fronts, staff training, work placements and the staging of events in the town centre.

The scheme is the government’s replacement for the European Structural and Investment Fund Programme, which provided around £7.7bn for regional development between 2014 and 2020.

This news was gathered by the Local Democracy Reporting Service which covers councils and other public service organisations.
