A man has been found guilty of sexually assaulting a woman and strangling another following a trial.

Cameron Mackay, 37, of Rougemont Close, Salisbury, appeared at Portsmouth Crown Court last week charged with assault by penetration, sexual assault, indecent exposure, actual bodily harm and intentional strangulation.

He was found guilty by a jury of all offences.

In April 2022, Mackay plied one of the victims, a woman in her 40s, with alcohol. She fell asleep and then woke up to find Mackay sexually assaulting her, police said.

On another occasion, in February 2023, a woman in her 30s, met Mackay while he was out walking his dog, and he invited her back to his address.

He exposed himself to her, at which point she tried to leave, but Mackay then climbed on top of her, whilst strangling her.

The victim managed to defend herself and escape the property.

Det Con Dan Smith, of the south criminal investigation department, thanked the victims for their bravery and "strength" by standing up in court.

"I hope this investigation shows that victims will always be listened to," he said.

"Mackay is a dangerous individual who has now been found guilty by his peers of a number of offences against women."

Mackay remains in custody and will be sentenced on 14 November at Salisbury Crown Court.
