Anti-social behaviour crackdown sees 1,000 fines issued
- Published
North Lincolnshire Council has issued 1,000 fines over the past six months to tackle anti-social behaviour.
The fines have been handed out in Scunthorpe to crack down on issues including littering and street drinking.
In 2023, the council increased fines for graffiti and fly-posting from £150 to £500 and littering from £150 to £200.
Council leader councillor Rob Waltham said taxpayers are "fed up of footing the bill for the actions of this selfish minority".
He added: "We won’t tolerate anti-social behaviour, and if it takes hitting culprits with fines that is what we will do."
A Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) was previously introduced in October 2021 to deter anti-social behaviour in Scunthorpe and Brigg.
The council said since the introduction of the PSPO, more than 4,300 fixed penalties have been issued in the town.
'Tougher action'
Councillor John Davison, cabinet member for community wellbeing, said: "People told us they wanted tougher action on these offences and that is exactly what we are doing.
"We won’t stop until it is eradicated."
