A man who threatened to kill his former partner and stabbed her with a kitchen knife has been warned he faces an "inevitable" jail sentence.

Richard Admans, 59, admitted wounding with intent and making a threat to kill when he appeared at Lincoln Crown Court on Monday.

The court heard Admans' victim suffered non life-threatening injuries to her abdomen during the attack, which took place in Little London, Spalding, on 19 March.

Admans, of Marsh Road, Spalding, was remanded into custody and is due to be sentenced on 4 October.

'Serious matters'

Jeremy Janes, mitigating for Admans, asked for sentencing to be adjourned for the preparation of a probation report.

Mr Janes told the court: "Mr Admans has little recollection of this incident. However, he has always, as in his interview, admitted being the person responsible.

"He had the two kitchen knives with him and he caused the principal wound to the abdomen of the victim."

The court also heard that the relationship of 20 years had ended "relatively recently".

Mr Janes added the attack was out of character for the defendant.

Judge Simon Hirst agreed to the adjournment request, but warned Admans to prepare for a jail sentence.

"You have pleaded guilty to serious matters," the judge said, adding: "People who use knives and inflict injuries with knives inevitably receive immediate custodial sentences."
