A Surrey primary school says it wants to set up a pen pal project with children in Uganda after sending them hundreds of books as part of a scheme to help schoolchildren learn to read English.
Cordwalles Junior School in Camberley donated more than 500 books to primary-age children at Kizito Lesenge School.
The books will be used by students at the school, which has over 150 children in one class which is led by one teacher.
Abi Moore, headteacher at Cordwalles, said: "It was truly inspiring for our pupils to be able to give something back in this way and we know just how much these books were gratefully received."
She added: "We're looking forward to donating more when we can arrange transport for the books, as well as increasing our links with the school in Uganda through other ways, such as a pen pal scheme.
"Our pupils got such a sense of purpose from giving back and we're all keen to continue to do what we can to help."
