Man in his 70s dies in bungalow fire

A man in his 70s has died in a bungalow fire in Derby.

Emergency services were called to the property in Olton Road, Mickleover, at 06:42 BST on Wednesday.

Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service said the man was rescued from the bungalow and handed into the care of paramedics, but was pronounced dead at the scene.

A joint fire and Derbyshire Police investigation is under way, but there are not thought to be any suspicious circumstances.

Police said the man's next of kin were being supported by specialist officers.

Formal identification is due to take place and a file is being prepared for the coroner, a police spokesperson added.

Olton Road was closed while the fire was dealt with and has since been reopened.
