A man facing terrorism charges has denied researching firearms while planning an attack against soldiers and police officers in Birmingham.

Jason Savage from Small Heath, Birmingham, appeared at the Old Bailey on Friday by video link from HMP Belmarsh after being arrested by counter-terrorism officers on 14 March.

The 34-year-old is charged with being engaged in conduct in preparation for acts of terrorism after he allegedly checked out the location for an attack in Wright Street.

Mr Savage denies all charges and a trial date has been set for 14 January at Birmingham Crown Court.

Mr Savage is alleged to have researched the manufacture of firearms, the use of knives and researching places and people to attack in Birmingham including members of the armed forces and West Midlands Police.
