Three men have been arrested after a car that failed to stop for police crashed into two other vehicles.

Nottinghamshire Police, which has since referred itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), said officers were called to the northbound carriageway on the A1, near Blyth, at about 18:45 GMT on Sunday.

Four men inside the car suffered injuries with two of them being taken to hospital in a serious condition, the force said.

A 34-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and drug-driving, while two other men - aged 26 and 59 - were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit theft.

Police said other people involved in the crash suffered minor injuries.

The road was closed in both directions for several hours while investigations took place and reopened at about 05:00 on Monday.

Detectives said their probe was at an early stage and urged anyone with information or dashcam footage to contact the force.
