Another case of bird flu has been confirmed at a commercial poultry unit in Suffolk, leading to a protection zone being set up.

The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) said the case had been confirmed near Elveden, close to the border with Norfolk, on Wednesday.

It comes after another case was found at a commercial poultry property near Lakenheath on Sunday, and new housing orders came into force.

A 3km (1.9 mile) protection zone and 10km (6.2 mile) surveillance zone have been put in place around the premises, and all poultry will be culled.

New housing rules came into force for bird owners with more than 50 birds to keep their flock on strict lockdowns at 00:01 GMT.

The rules apply to owners in parts of the North, Midlands and East of England.

UK chief veterinary officer Christine Middlemiss previously said there had been an increase in bird flu, and the action would try to prevent any further spread.

The government has said the risk to the general public's health was very low.
