A 37-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a man was seriously assaulted in Plymouth.

Devon and Cornwall Police said officers found the injured man with multiple "puncture wounds" in Pembroke Lane on Saturday 23 August at about 21:05 BST after being called by the ambulance service.

The force said the injured man in his 30s was taken to Derriford Hospital in a critical condition but his injuries have since been confirmed as not life threatening or life changing.

A suspect was released on bail pending further inquiries, Devon and Cornwall Police said.

Deputy senior investigating officer, acting Det Sgt Andrew Trott-Rodgers, said: "We believe there is no wider risk to the general public."

He added members of the public would continue to see a police presence in the area while enquiries remained ongoing.

Police said following enquiries, it was established the injured man sustained his injuries while in a car on Beaumont Street.

Acting Det Sgt Trott-Rodgers said: "We are continuing to appeal for witnesses for anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious in the Beaumont Street area between 20:30 and 21:30 on Saturday 23 August to please contact us."
